Dr. Olatokunbo Sofola

President

Dr. Olatokunbo (‘Toks) Sofola is originally from Nigeria. She is an attorney in multiple jurisdictions: Lincoln’s Inn, London, U.K.; Nigeria; New York State and the Southern and Eastern Districts of the United States Federal Court. She holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Laws from Kings College, University of London, U.K. She has worked in both private practice and for non-profit legal services. She is presently a legal practitioner in New York, USA. She is a former United Nations Representative of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, and has served on the Boards and Committees of various Bar Associations in Nigeria and New York, USA. She was a founder of Safe House Project, a street children’s organization in Lagos, Nigeria; and a Charter member of Zonta Club of Greater Queens, New York, a service organization.

Dr. Adeola Sofola-James

Vice-President

Dr. Adeola Sofola-James is originally from Nigeria. She is a medical doctor specializing in pediatrics. She was trained at the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin, Ireland; did her pediatric internship and residency at Columbia Hospital/Harlem Hospital Center, New York, USA; after which she worked as a pediatric ER attending doctor for over 10 years. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a children’s advocate with a passion for making children better. She ensures the best possible outcome for children when they are hospitalized, and presently divides her time between private medical practice and being a pediatric hospitalist.

Shervon Miller

Treasurer

Shervon Miller is originally from Jamaica, and is a descendant of the Arawak Amerindian nation. She is a paralegal trained at Nassau Community College and Adelphi University, Long Island, New York, with specialist knowledge in Child Support and Foreclosure matters. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, and holds many positions at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, Roosevelt, New York including: President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Father Bukey Council; Bereavement Minister and Religious Education Catechist. She is also Secretary for the Ministry to Catholics of African Ancestry.

Omolara S. Martins

Executive Director/Secretary

Omolara S.Martins is a business consultant trained at the Wharton school for Business, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. She holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School. She presently works in a consulting firm that helps companies in several industries to develop their corporate strategy. She has worked in the past as an Options Sales Professional at Tullet Prebon; an Equity Derivatives Sales trader at Morgan Stanley; and an Equity Derivatives Sales and Trading Analyst at Deutsche Bank.

Dr. Jannette Domingo

Board Member

Dr. Jannette Domingo has served as Dean of Graduate Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice since 2007. She previously served as Academic Director of Graduate Studies and Chair of the Department of African American Studies. Dr. Domingo was the founding director of the federally funded McNair Scholars Program at John Jay College, a pioneering effort to sponsor undergraduate research and prepare a more diverse group of students for doctoral study. She also served as an Academic Director of the Police Leadership Program, leading the challenging Race and Ethnic Studies component of this innovative, multidisciplinary approach to developing the leadership capabilities of New York Police Department personnel. Dr. Domingo holds a B.A. in Political Science/International Relations with a concentration in Black Studies from Swarthmore College; M.A. in Economics from Mcgill University; M. Phil. and Ph. D in Economics from Columbia University.

Nelly Mensah

Board Member

Nelly Kpeh-Cofie Mensah is originally from Ghana, West Africa. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the City University of New York. She is Manager at a leading, national retail store; and has managed various retail, commercial organizations for approximately the last twenty years.

Audrey Perry

Board Member

Audrey Perry, born and raised in Hempstead New York, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from C.W. Post, NY, and a Master of Arts from New York University. She specialized in Maternal-Child Health Nursing and held supervisory and management positions in public health clinics for pregnant and parenting women in underserved areas in Brooklyn. Audrey was Maternal-Child Health Nurse Consultant, and later Deputy Director, Family Health in the Metro New York Regional Office.; and is currently employed coordinating the Summer Health Internship Program for minority students in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
