Focus Series

As part of the mission of AWA to foster greater understanding of global Africans, disseminate accurate information and knowledge, and to give visibility to African perspectives, AWA chooses one country a year to focus on and learn about. To date, we have “Focused” on Ethiopia, Antigua and Barbuda, Senegal, Haiti and Suriname.

AWA’s focus events are produced in collaboration with the people and officials of the subject country who can give accurate and first-hand information. The occasion is a mixed media event including not only talks on general facts, history, economic facts and current affairs, but also film, photos, music, food, art, and the opportunity to speak and interact with people from the subject country.
